Innovation in Intralogistics: cellumation Develops Smart Conveyor Systems of the Future

cellumation GmbH, based in Bremen, is setting new standards in logistics automation. With its new development project, cv.SMART, this innovative technology company is bridging a key gap between its simple and highly complex conveyor systems, thereby making state-of-the-art material flow technology accessible to a significantly broader market.

The Project

The Vision: Intelligence Meets Flexibility

While conventional conveyor belts have remained virtually unchanged for over a century, cellumation is revolutionizing the industry with its modular celluveyor system. This flexible platform enables goods to be moved along any path with precise control, a universal machine for the logistics of tomorrow.

Until now, cellumation has offered two product lines: the highly automated cv.CLASSIC systems for the most demanding applications and the compact cv.GO systems for simpler tasks. With the cv.SMART project, the company is now introducing the perfect solution for the mid-range market—smart enough for dynamic processes, yet compact and cost-effective enough for widespread use.

Artificial intelligence makes all the difference

At the heart of this innovation: state-of-the-art image processing technology powered by artificial intelligence that operates directly within the system. While previous solutions required complex central control units, the cv.SMART project relies on decentralized intelligence. Cameras and processing units detect objects, adapt to a wide variety of conveyed goods, and control movements in real time, all without the need for a large control cabinet.

This technological advancement not only makes the systems more compact and cost-effective, but also more robust in the face of challenges such as uneven weight distribution or damaged packages.

Sustainability at the core

At cellumation, innovation also means responsibility. The modular systems consume energy only when objects are actually being transported and even then, only where necessary. The space requirements are significantly lower than those of conventional systems, and there are virtually no wear parts. At the end of their service life, the modules can be easily disassembled, reused, or recycled.

From a lab in Bremen to the world

As a spin-off from the University of Bremen, cellumation combines academic excellence with entrepreneurial pioneering spirit. The company develops and manufactures its products in Bremen and, through continuous innovation, creates highly skilled jobs in the region. Renowned system integrators worldwide, from Spain to the United States already rely on cellumation technology.

With the cv.SMART project, the company is tapping into new markets across the entire e-commerce and logistics sector and impressively demonstrating how engineering expertise from Bremen is shaping the future of global supply chains.

Outlook

Development will continue through early 2027. The first installations at pilot customers are already planned for 2026. cellumation is thus continuing its success story: innovative technology from Bremen for the smart logistics centers of tomorrow.
